A food chain A food chain shows how energy moves from one organism to another and shows just ONE PATH for the energy to move.

An animal that hunts other animals for food is called a ___________. And the animal that is being hunted and eaten is called the _______.
predator, prey

I am covered in hair, even though it is pretty hard to see it. I swim under water too. When a baby is born, it doesn't come from an egg, and I will feed my baby milk after it is born. a) amphibian b) reptile c) bird d) mammal e) fish

A Food web. A food web shows MANY DIFFERENT PATHS for energy to travel between organisms.

Sharp claws (called talons) help them catch their prey. A sharp beak helps them kill their prey and eat the meat. Large wings help it to fly quickly and quietly. Smooth wings to help it fly fast Red and brown feathers help it blend in with trees.

In a food chain, this is an organism that helps break down plants and animals who have died. They are often in soil and some examples are fungi and bacteria.

Mammals are covered in this: a) scales b) skin c) hair d) feathers
Hair

This type of animal is covered in scales and lays eggs. One example is a shark. a) amphibian b) reptile c) bird d) mammal e) fish

Draw a food chain with the following organisms: hyena, grass, giraffe, lion, bacteria
bacteria --> grass --> giraffe --> hyena --> lion

A hawk is trying to catch a brown snake in the desert. What adaptations does a snake have that protect it from it's predator?
Camoflauge - the snake blends in with the sand so the hawk can't see it. A smooth body helps the snake move quickly and quietly A snake has sharp teeth to help protect itself from predators. A snake has many strong muscles that help hit squeeze any attackers.

This is the process by which green plants make their own food.

Draw a picture of the type of teeth and claws that a carnivore will most likely have. Also, explain why these types of teeth are important.
http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/41400/41436/teeth_41436_lg.gif It is important for carnivores to have sharp teeth because they eat meat, and therefore need sharp teeth that can tear the meat away from an animal and catch and kill that animal first.

This vertebrate is a reptile and is also often a predator to mice or small birds.
Snake

Draw a food web including the following organisms: coyote, cactus fruit, lizard, grasshopper, mouse, snake, hawk, grass.

Give an example of an animal that is all of these things: a vertebrate, a mammal, a carnivore, and a predator.
Many different animals

Producers need to make their own food. Draw a picture of how this happens. Include the following words in your model: carbon dioxide, sunlight, oxygen, plant, and glucose.

What kind of animal would most likely have these teeth? a) Carnivore b) producer c) herbivore d) omnivore Be ready to explain why you chose that answer and what kind of food this animal might eat.
Omnivore This is most likely an omnivore because this animal has sharp teeth to catch it's prey and tear the meat, but it also has flat molars to crush and eat plants with.

The Cardinal is an example of this type of animal. Although this animal is a vertebrate, it often eats invertebrates like worms or other bugs. Unfortunately, it is also prey to humans, especially on Thanksgiving. a) amphibian b) reptile c) bird d) mammal e) fish

https://www.biologycorner.com/resources/food_web_deciduous_sm.png Looking at the food web. Imagine that a person put rat poison all over their land and all of the rats and mice died. Describe all of the things that would happen if there were no more mice in this ecosystem? How would it affect the other animals?
If there were no more mice in this ecosystem, then the snakes and the badgers would go hungry and wouldn't have their natural food to eat. If this happens, they might die also. If the snakes and badgers die, the cougar will have less to eat and may die as well. If the cougar dies then the deer and the bird won't have any predators and there will be a lot of them all around. There might even get to be too many and there won't be enough food to go around for all of them.
