Turn to page 22, What are the two major mountain ranges in California? Why would the lowland area between them be ideal or great for growing crops?
Sierra Nevadas and Coast Ranges. The plains between the two ranges are cool and flat with rain water that flows off the mountains onto the plains. This creates rich, fertile soil. Great for growing fruits and vegetables.

Describe the effect the Sierra Nevada mountain range has on the climate of California.
