EWB is one of these types of organizations that help people around the world.

What is Humanitarian?  or What is Humanitarian Organization?

FACTS:  EWB-USA was formed in 2002 after a University of Colorado Boulder professor visited a community in Belize and learned that they lacked clean water and sanitation infrastructure. As a result, the local children spent a majority of their time carrying water for drinking and crop irrigation from miles away. The professor connected the engineering skills of his students with the community in San Pablo to create a mutually beneficial partnership to come up with a solution.  There are now hundreds of college and professional chapters across the US that work with communities in developing countries to improve public health.

This substance exists in three phases - gas, liquid, and solid.

What is Water?

FACTS:  Approximately 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all Earth's water. Water also exists in the air as water vapor, in rivers and lakes, in icecaps and glaciers, in the ground as soil moisture and in aquifers, and even in you and your dog!

The part of the hardware of your computer that stores all your programs and files.

What is the Hard Drive?

FACTS: The first hard drive was developed by IBM in 1956 and called the IBM 350 Disk Storage Unit. Hard drives were invented at IBM as a way to give computers a rapidly accessible "random-access" memory (RAM).

The widest cable-stayed bridge in the world is the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge, located in this city.

What is Boston?

FACTS: The "Zakim Bridge", also known as the "Bunker Hill Bridge", and connecting tunnel were built as part of the Big Dig which is the largest highway construction project in the United States. We can't fully appreciate this structure without understanding all the symbolism it contains. An example of this is the tops of the two upside-down-Y-shaped towers, which are meant to mimic the nearby Bunker Hill Monument.  The Bunker Hill Monument marks the location of one of the first major battles of the American Revolution.

Enter the unknown number that solves the equation.

? = 11 x 39/13

What is 33?

FACTS:  There are 3 simple steps to multiply fractions:

1. Multiply the top numbers (the numerators).

2. Multiply the bottom numbers (the denominators).

3. Simplify the fraction if needed.

There are over 200 of these across the USA, including ones for university engineering students and ones for professional engineers.

What are EWB chapters?

FACTS: EWB student chapters are located at colleges & universities across the country to support engineering students who are interested in working on projects to improve public health around the world. EWB professional chapters include people of all disciplines, not just engineering - for example -  geologists, hydrogeologists, teachers, and toxicologists. They all contribute to the success of EWB projects around the globe.

The blinking line or shape on the screen that tells you where the next character goes.

What is a Cursor?

FACTS:  A cursor is an indicator used to show the current position for user interaction on a computer monitor or other display device. The mouse cursor is also called a pointer, because of its resemblance in usage to a pointing stick.

Connecting lower Manhattan with Jersey City, it was the world's first ventilated, underwater, vehicular, twin-tube tunnel.

What is the Holland Tunnel?

FACTS: It was named for Clifford M. Holland, the engineer who designed it. The north tube is 8,558 feet long and the south tube is 8,371 feet long. The roadway is 20 feet wide and reaches a maximum depth below mean high water of 93 feet 5 inches.

What is 7,924?

FACTS: Mental math is a group of skills that allows people to do math “in their head” without using pencil and paper or a calculator. One of these skills is remembering math facts, like 8 × 5 = 40. Other skills include rounding numbers and estimating calculations.

This measurement system is used in most other countries in the world.

What is the metric system?

FACTS: The metric system uses units such as meter, liter, and gram to measure length, liquid volume, and mass, just as the U.S. customary system uses feet, quarts, and ounces to measure these. The system was first proposed by the French astronomer and mathematician Gabriel Mouton in 1670 and was standardized in France under the Republican government in the 1790s.
