What is insulin?

What are the two centers in the hypothalamus that control eating and what are their functions?
The lateral hypothalamus brings hunger. If this area is destroyed, even a starving animal will not eat. The ventromedical hypothalamus depresses hunger. If this part is destroyed, an animal will process food more rapidly, overeat and gain weight.
