Before entering a resident's room, this should always be done.

This should be protected during personal care

What is: Correct lift/sling, gait belt, number of staff, resident footwear, wheelchair brakes, bed height, and care plan

What is: Accurately, timely, and according to policy
How do you report suspected abuse or neglect
What is: Report it immediately to the nurse/supervisor according to policy, even if its only a suspicion
If a resident refuses care, this is what you should do.
What is Respect the refusal, encourage/explain if appropriate, report to the nurse, and document per policy
Supplies should not be stored in these two places
What is: On the floor or in bathrooms
A resident is found on the floor what should you do
What is: Stay with the resident, keep them safe, call for the nurse and do not move them unless they are in immediate danger

What is: Never guess, make things up, or say "we always do it this way"

This should be changed between dirty and clean tasks

What is: Call bell within reach, pathways clear, brakes locked, alarms/mats in place if care-planned and proper footwear

A surveyor asks how you protect dignity during care
What is: I knock, explain care, close the door/curtain, keep the resident covered, speak respectfully, and involve resident in choices
A surveyor sees you leave a room wearing dirty gloves. What is the issue?
A resident requires a two-person assist, but only one CNA is available. What should happen?
What is: Do NOT transfer alone. Get the required help and follow the care plan
A surveyor asks how you know what care a resident needs
What is: I check the care plan and ask the nurse if I am unsure
What should CNAs remember during survey interviews
What is: Be honest, brief, respectful, and explain safe care practices. If unsure, say where you would find the answer
