The official guide and rulebook for a college course. Handed out or posted on Blackboard during the first week, it outlines the class calendar, grading policies, assignment due dates, and exactly what is expected of you to pass.
What is a Syllabus?
Coordinates testing services and works individually with students to set up personalized accommodations. If you had an IEP or a 504 plan in high school, make sure to connect with them and share your documents so you can get your accommodations set up!

An official (or unofficial) record of your complete academic history, including the courses you've taken, your grades, and your GPA.
What is a Transcript?
(This should go under the website resources category but I ran out of room) Navigating the physical locations of Wichita State's campus can be hard, but this is a helpful tool for finding buildings, parking lots, and other spaces.
What is the Interactive Map?
Your official status based on your grades and GPA, which determines if you are making good progress toward your degree or are facing academic probation.
What is Academic Standing?
Your unique identification number consisting of two letters and six numbers. Aka your Shocker ID.
What is MyWSU ID?
Located in the Student Wellness Center (inside the Steve Clark YMCA), this resource provides affordable mental health treatment, crisis intervention, and prevention training for enrolled students.
What is CAPS (Counselling and Psychological Services)?
A student whose parents or legal guardians have not earned a four-year bachelor's degree.
What is a First Generation Student?
An undergraduate student who has already taken a historically difficult course, aced it, and now runs weekly study sessions for students currently in that class.
What is a Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader?
The place responsible for handling student enrollment, class registration, and official academic records and transcripts.
What is the Office of the Registrar?
The official government form you must fill out each year to see if you qualify for federal financial aid to help pay for college. It's completely free to submit and opens the door to most financial aid at WSU.
What is the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)?
Wichita State's 24/7 resource center for all your student business needs. Located in the Rhatigan Student Center, this place offers support for financial aid, admissions, tuition payments, and class registration. It is also the central hub for first-year academic advising.
The professors, instructors, and lecturers who teach your classes and conduct research at the university (different from staff).
What is Faculty?
A person who provides personalized one-on-one support to help you navigate college life from tackling procrastination and managing your time to mastering test prep and staying accountable.
What is a Success Coach?
Wichita State's central online dashboard and student home base. Log in with your ID to handle official university business such as class registration, checking financial aid, paying tuition, viewing grades, and accessing email.
What is MyWSU Portal?
The team that coordinates wraparound support when personal or academic challenges impact your success. They can support academic struggles, financial stressors, housing/food insecurity, or relationship issues.
