a scheduling system for lean manufacturing and just-in-time manufacturing (JIT)
What is kanban?
This is a Lean method that shows the map of the route taken by a product or person as it travels through the steps along a value stream.
What is a spaghetti diagram?
the attitudes and behaviors of a company and its employees. It is evident in the way an organization's people interact with each other, the values they hold, and the decisions they make
What is company culture
a process in which 99.99966% of all opportunities to produce some feature of a part are statistically expected to be free of defects
What is six sigma process?
everything the customer is willing to to pay for
What is 'value'?
a Japanese word for traditional paper lantern. It is one of the most common forms of visual management that is in use in Lean
What is andon
the design of any task that aims to describe and explain the variation of information under conditions that are hypothesized to reflect the variation
What is DOE?
Awareness – of the need and requirement for change
Desire – to bring about change and be a participant in it
Knowledge – of how to bring about this change
Ability – to incorporate the change on a regular basis
Reinforcement – to keep it implemented and reinforced later on as well.
What are the elements of the ADKAR change model?
statistical techniquefor testing if 3(+) population means are all equal, used for analysis of variance
What is ANOVA?
document that essentially is a contract for work between the project sponsor and the project team. Used at beginning of new assignments.
What is a project charter?
TPS word that stands for continuous improvement
What is Kaizen or Kaizan?
!!! BONUS !!!!
Specify value from the standpoint of the end customer by product family.
Identify all the steps in the value stream for each product family, eliminating whenever possible those steps that do not create value.
Make the value-creating steps occur in tight sequence so the product will flow smoothly toward the customer.
As flow is introduced, let customers pull value from the next upstream activity.
As value is specified, value streams are identified, wasted steps are removed, and flow and pull are introduced, begin the process again and continue it until a state of perfection is reached in which perfect value is created with no waste.
What are the 5 lean principles?
Create a Sense of Urgency, Build a Guiding Coalition, Form a Strategic Vision and Initiatives, Enlist a Volunteer Army, Enable Action by Removing Barriers, Generate Short-Term Wins, Sustain Acceleration,Institute Change
What are the 8 steps of Kotter's change model?
Seven consecutive data points increasing or decreasing in an SPC control chart
One of the conditions (SPC) for a process to be out of control
A group of people are called together in one conference room and a discussion is held on specific topics that need to be addressed. These groups are excellent for identifying the CTQ (Critical to Quality), however, are difficult to generalize
what is a focus group?
the waste of overburden, which is a well-known contributing factor in decreased productivity and employee morale across the board.
What is Muri?
X matrix document that includes goals, strategies, strategic projects (initiatives) and owners
What is the hoshin kanri matrix?
person who seeks to direct and guide the employee, setting them on the path to success over the long-term. Not structured, based on trust.
What is a menthor?
BONUS !!!
standard index to state the capability of one process, explained by Joris/Mirko this year.
What is CPK process capability index?
Action to take according to power-interest stakeholder matrix for high interest-high power people in your project
What is 'Manage closely'?
any basic form, routine, or pattern of behavior. For improvement and coaching.
What is Kata
Also called Mizusumashi. His/her purpose is to handle the replenishment tasks so that the production personnel can focus on the value-added tasks that create products
What is a water spider/strider?
Stimulating Kaizen by staff may reduced staffing need which may reduce the willigness to continue improving by that staff
What is the lean paradox?
in some situations, when independent random variables are added, their properly normalized sum tends toward a normal distribution (informally a bell curve) even if the original variables themselves are not normally distributed.
What is central limit theorem (CLT)?
method to transform qualitative user demands into quantitative parameters, to deploy the functions forming quality, and to deploy methods for achieving the design quality into subsystems and component parts, and ultimately to specific elements of the manufacturing process
What is Quality function deployment (QFD)?
