What are the two basic parts of the nervous system?
Central and peripheral nervous system.
What types of neurons are there?
Sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons.
What parts of the body is this system a part of?
Anything outside the central nervous system.
Where is this part of the nervous system?
The brain and spinal cord area.
What does the brain do?
It processes information from nerves and sends out reactions.
What are nerves?
Bundles of nerve fibers.
What do sensory neurons do?
Send messages to the brain in order to react to sensing things.
What does the PNS do?
Connects the CNS with the rest of the body.
What part of the CNS processes information?
The brain.
They grow larger instead.
How are reactions sent?
With nerve impulses along fibers.
What do motor neurons do?
They activate muscles for voluntary and involuntary movement.
What function is the PNS performing when it is stimulated by an effector?
A motor function/interacting with something.
How does the CNS recieve information?
Through the PNS.
What are the five lobes of the brain?
Frontal lobe, Parietal lobe, Temporal lobe, Occipital lobe, and Insula
What can mature neurons not do?
They can not divide.
What do interneurons do?
They pass signals throughout the body.
The spinal cord and then the brain in the CNS.
State a spinal cord function.
Integrates information.
It is the reflex center.
It is the conduction route to and from the brain.
What connects the two different sides of the brain together?
The Corpus Callosum.
What are the three functions of the nervous system?
Sensory, integrative, and motor functions
Describe the physical and/or shape differences between the three different types of neurons.
Sensory neurons has an unipolar shape.
Motor neurons are multipolar.
Interneurons are bipolar.
What are examples of information the PNS can send to the CNS?
Any of the senses.
What does the CNS do?
It is the primary output for motor neurons and sensory input.
What are sulci and gyri?
