Fluid-filled cyst with wall of fibrous tissue
What is a bone cyst?
This structure has eight smaller bones which are fitted closely together arranged in a horizontal row
What are the carpals bones?
Patient's forearm is placed on the table with the hand pronated and palm resting on the IR. The hand is rotated 45 deg on a wedge sponge.
What is Postero Oblique hand or digits?
Central ray is directed perpendicularly to the 2nd digit of the metacarpophalangeal joint
What is the lateral hand?
Elbow centered to the exposure field
Elbow is in the true lateral position
Radial tuberosity is partially superimposing the coronoid process
What is the lateral projection of the elbow?
Inflammation of the bursa
What is bursitis?
Two bones in the upper extremity whcich lie parallel to each other
What is the forearm?
The arm is internally rotated to place the posterior aspect of the 1st digit on the IR with the thumbnail down
What is Anteroposterior projection of the 1st digit or thumb?
Perpendicular to the midcarpal area and enters just distal to the radius
What is the Postero oblique projection of the wrist?
The IR is 1 1/2" above the humeral head
Humeral head and greater tubercle are in profile
Arm is slightly abducted and the hand is supinated
What is the Antero posterior projection of the humerus?
Malignant, primary tumor of bone with bone or cartilage formation
What is Osteosarcoma?
Long and slender structure that tapers inferiorly and a large upper portion with two beaklike processes and concave depressions
What is the ulna?
The hand is hyperextended with the hand internally rotated and abducted so that the thumb is flat on the IR
What is the Anteroposterior projection of the 1st digit (thumb)?
Patient's elbow is flexed 90 deg. with the CR directed perpendicularly to the wrist joint
What the lateral projecton of the wrist?
The lesser tubercle of the humerus is in profile on the medial aspect
Greater tubercle is superimposed over the humeral head
What is the lateral projection of the humerus?
Loss of bone density
What is osteoporosis?
Broad and flattened structure and has a conic projection on its lateral surface called the radial styloid process
What is the radius?
The forearm and hand are positioned on the table with palmar surface down on the table
What is the posteroanterior projection of the hand?
Patient is positioned by placing the wrist in the prone position and centered to the IR with a slight flexion. carpal area
What is the postero anterior projection of the wrist?
The distal humerus is demonstrated
Epicondyles are superimposed
Bony trabecular details and surrounding tissue is evidenced
What is the lateral projection of the humerus in the recumbent or lateral position for (trauma or fracture)?
Accumulation of fluid in a joint associated with an underlying condition
What is joint effusion?
A deep depression found immediately behind the coronoid fossas and accommodates the olecranon process when the elbow is extended
What is the olecranon fossa?
Customary projection for localizing foreign bodies and metacarpal fracture displacements
What is the extended lateral hand position?
Elbow is flexed 90 deg with the medial aspect of the forearm against the IR. CR is perpendicular to the midpoint of the forearm
What is the lateral projection of the forearm?
Slight superimposition of the radial head, neck, and tuberosity over the proximal ulna
Open radioulnar space
What is the Anteroposterior porjection of the forearm?
