Name the three main sections of a data packet?
What information does the packet header contain?
Destination address/IP address of the device where the data is being sent.
Packet Number
Originator's address/IP address of the device from which the data has been originally sent.
Size of the packets in bytes
Which part of the data packet is the actual data from the file?
Payload
This section of the packet includes two main pieces of information, first, is the marker to indicate it is the end of the packet and also the data for any error detection systems that are being used.
Trailer
Why does data need to be broken down into packets to be transmitted?
Data is broken down into packets so it can be transmitted more efficiently and reliably across a network. If a packet is lost or damaged, only that packet needs to be resent, and the packets can be reassembled in the correct order when they reach their destination.
