Two students were given this problem:

x^3=-27

Emma says that the answer is -3 since she took the cube root of both sides. Alex says the answer should be "no answer" because you can't take the cube root of a negative number, the calculator says error.

Who do you agree with and why?

Emma is correct because it IS possible to take the cube root of a negative number. It isn't possible to square root a negative.
