What should you do when you arrive at school next Tuesday?

At least one lesson of Typing Club and a round of Multiplication by Heart.
100

What should you do if you really need water or the bathroom in the middle of class?

Raise three fingers in a 'W' for water, raise crossed fingers for the bathroom. If the teacher doesn't see, speak up.

What should you do at the start of each Monday? What about Tuesdays through Thursdays?

On Monday, open your homework binder and create a plan for when you're going to do your homework for the week. For the rest of the week, check your binder in the morning to see if you're following your plan.

100

Which jobs should be done as soon as dismissal starts every day?

Sweeping and Room & Hall organizer.

100

When is it okay to use a hand fidget?

In either Teacher Jay's or Mrs. Scarpinato's class, as long as it is not a distraction to yourself or anyone else. Specials classes may have different rules, so do not expect the same to be true in all of those classes.

200

If you have finished everything you need to do on a Monday afternoon, is it okay to start singing songs with your friends? Why or why not?

No, because many students use dismissal to do their homework and need a space they can concentrate in.

200

When is the BEST time to use the bathroom or get water?

Between classes, or after snack, recess, or lunch.

200

If you don't finish your classwork during class, when should you do it?

During dismissal. You do not need to take it home, unless instructed to do so by a teacher.

200

What should your hallway hook look like? What should you do if a Room & Hall monitor asks you to clear up your spot?

Your hook should be clear underneath, with your backpack, travel bag, and any coats or clothes hanging from the hook. If someone asks you to clear up your spot, you should do it without arguing with them. If you're very sure that your spot is good, you can ask a teacher to check instead of arguing with your friend.

200

When can you be using your Chromebook in class?

If a teacher has told you to take out your Chromebook for a specific activity. Your Chromebook should not be open unless you have been given permission, or asked for it.

300

When is it appropriate to play games on your Chromebooks?

On Fridays during arrival & dismissal, when you have finished checking your Homework and doing any catch-up work.

300

What should you do immediately after you finish eating your Lunch?

Get a wipe and wipe down your desk. Then, check to make sure that your seat and the floor around your desk are food-free.

300

About how long should each night of homework take? What should you do if you're taking less time to do it? How about more time?

Each night should take about 20 minutes. If you're taking less than that and still finishing it completely, that's okay. If you're taking more than 20 minutes per night, stop and get your parent(s) to sign it.

300

What should you do if you realize that you will only have the job you want during a 3-day week and want to do it more days than that?

Wait until the next time the job comes around. There is no way to make who does what jobs for how long completely fair. Everyone will get to do every job for at least three different weeks, so don't worry!

300

The teacher has rung the bell and said it's time to transition, but you're almost done with the chapter of the book you're reading and you really want to finish it. What should you do?

Put a bookmark in it and return to it later. By deciding to finish what you're doing, you're making everyone else wait for you.

400

During dismissal, other than any jobs you have, what is the first thing you need to check if you need to do it every day? What's the second thing?

First is unfinished classwork. Second is Typing Club or Multiplication by Heart IF those were morning expectations and you didn't get a chance to complete them.

400

What should you do if you don't have enough food packed in your lunchbox?

Let the teacher know, and see if you can get a snack from the front office. THEN, when you get home, make sure to let your parents know that you need more food to be packed! The front office will not be able to keep supplying you with food for the whole year.

400

Where does your finished, unfinished, and graded + returned homework go?

All of it goes in the matching sections of your homework binder.

400

What's the best way to approach a job that has two of three people doing it?

Talk to the others doing the job and make a plan to break up the different parts that feels fair to everyone.

400

You say something to someone else and another student or teacher mentions that it was an unkind thing to say. However, the person you said it to says that they don't mind. What should you do?

Apologize anyways, and make an effort not to say something similar again. Very often people will act as though they aren't bothered when they actually are.

500

If you have finished all of homework during dismissal (or have a plan to do it later) and have nothing else to work on, what should you be doing?

Quietly reading!

500

What does appropriate bathroom use look like? What does it not look like?

Enter the bathroom, do what you need to do, and leave. Bathrooms are not hang-out spots, and paper towels & water are not for throwing, tossing, or anything other than washing & drying your hands.

500

In a group assignment, you're having trouble getting along with your partners. They keep getting off-task and you're becoming frustrated. What can you do?

Politely explain that you're becoming frustrated and that you'd like them to contribute. Make suggestions about specific ways that your partners could contribute. If the problem continues, talk to a teacher about it.

500

You notice that the compost bucket is gross after you dump it out after lunch. What can do you?

Get a wipe and wipe it clean, then wash your hands afterwards. It won't hurt you! If you leave it, the problem only gets worse, and then someone else has to deal with it.

What's the point of a Think Sheet? What are some reasons that you might be given a Think Sheet?

Think Sheets are not a huge 'you're in trouble!' document. They're exactly what they sound like - a heads-up that there's something that you should probably spend some time thinking about. The purpose of a Think Sheet is to figure out ways that we can improve our patterns & behavior to make sure that ourselves and others are happier, safer, and better-equipped to handle problems. That's something that all of us can do, teachers included! Some reasons you might get a Think Sheet are if you're doing something unsafe for yourself or others, acting unkind to someone, or repeating a distracting or disruptive behavior after multiple reminders and conversations.
