This area of the heart is
-Majority of the heart is underneath the sternum
- Apex of the Heart
- Formed by the inferolateral portion of the left ventricle
- Lies posterior to the left 5th ICS on the mid-clav line
- Best area on the chest wall to auscultate the mitral valve → known as the “apex beat” or “PMI”

- Opposite of the apex
- Formed mainly by the LA and a small part of the RA
- Base of the Heart
Formed mainly by the RV
