What are 3 thicknesses for lineart?

Thin, Medium, Thick, and Lineless

100

What are the basic 2D shapes we use to structure our sketches?

circle (ellipse), rectangle (square included), and triangle

100

What is a gradient?

A scale from light to dark values

100

What is a monochromatic color palette?

A true hue and all its tints and shades

100

What is Kilroy's appropriate?

Family friendly material: no violence, no bad language, and no inappropriate jokes, talk, or drawings

200

Name the 3 most common types of hatching

scumbling, stippling, and cross hatching (hatching)

200

what are 3 of the 3D forms we use to create structure in a sketch?

Prisms/cylinder, cone/pyramid, sphere, and cube

200

What are tints and shades? Name a tint and a shade of red

Tints are lighter than the true hue

Shades are darker than the true hue

Red: Pink is a tint, Maroon is a shade

200

Name all the complimentary color palettes using the main 6 colors on the wheel

Green-Red

Blue-Orange

Purple-Yellow

200

What are pens, pencils, brushes, rulers, and erasers not good for?

anything not art related to the project

throwing, sword fighting, eating, painting/drawing on each other, etc

300
What are the differences between an unconfident line and a confident line?

Confident lines are clean, quick, long, and sweeping

Unconfident lines are short, hairy, shaky, and scared

300

What is a prism?

A 3D form with 2 faces that are the same 2D shape (ie square) and long rectangular faces connecting the 2 shape faces

300

What is subtractive art?

Removing value rather than adding it

300

What is an analogous palette? Make 1

Analogous palettes are 3 colors right next to each other on the color wheel

examples:

Red, Orange, and Yellow

Red, Blood Orange, and Orange

Red, Red Orange, and Orange Red

300

What are each of these steps and the order of them?

Sketch, color, thumbnails, lineart, shading

Thumbnails: small quick sketches to get ideas out that are numbered and have descriptions

sketch: the first pass of the final, a more refined version of a thumbnail

lineart: using confident lines and a fine liner beautifying and perfecting the sketch

color: adding a chosen color palette

shading: adding depth through value variation

400

How do you make your lineart more fluid and add depth/shade without using value variation or hatching?

Use dynamic line art (and place the thickest part opposite of the light source for the effect of shading)

400

What are the basic shapes used to form a front facing head?

Cranium: circle/sphere, cheeks to jaw: rectangle/prism, chin: triangle/pyramid

400

Why do values matter?

value provides contrast that makes art more interesting, focuses the viewers on important aspects of the art, and makes the art more realistic/believable

400

What is a tertiary palette? Make 2 of them

Tertiary palettes are 3 colors equally spaced from each other on the color wheel

Red, Yellow, and Blue

Purple, Green, and Orange

400

Demonstrate how to properly use brushes

Not jamming the brush into the plate/paint

drawing with the bristles, not against

squid technique

500

What is a tangent?

2 elements that are barely touching

ie. a circle directly sitting on a straight line

500

Draw 6 3D shapes in proportion to sketch a single subject in 5 minutes

Cube, Prisms (with different face shapes), Sphere, Cone, Pyramid, and Cylinder

human, animal, floating platform, nature, etc

500

Name 2 ways to make a value gradient?

hatching from light to dark

pencil weight/pressure

laying a dark watercolor pigment down and adding water and you pull it

500

What is RGB vs CMYK vs RYB and what are each of their purposes?

RGB: Red, Green, and Blue is for screen/digital creation

CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black is for print creation

RYB: Red, Yellow, Blue are primary colors and the only colors that cant be created but create all other colors when mixing traditional materials

500

List the entire watercolor clean up process

Dump your clean and dirty water cups and rinse quickly

wash the brush using a small amount of soap in your palm and carefully brushing back and forth, test by wiping it on a paper towel

washout your mixing lid/tray, maybe using a little soap

use a damp paper towel to wipe out any pigment that doesn't belong in the watercolor cakes or on the rim around colors (ie. wipe any blue out of the orange cake)
