"The heart is deceitful above all things..."
Jeremiah 17:9
Baptism is essential for salvation!
Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21
True or False: "Successful groups are doing it" is an acceptable means of authority because more people are coming to worship services!
FALSE! When we use man’s definition of “success” to determine whether something is right or wrong, we’ve displaced God’s standard with man’s.

"I just feel like it's okay..."
Human emotion/feelings are NOT the standard! (Jeremiah 17:9, Proverbs 14:12)
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Bible is the ONLY source we need to know what God wants from us!
We are told this in several places in Scripture! But especially 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
What does Bible authority mean?
Everything we do should be determined by what we read in the Bible, because the Bible comes from God, the ultimate authority.
Believe that Jesus gave a latter-day revelation with new teachings through a man named Joseph Smith

"The ends justify the means..."

Doing evil to bring about good does not justify the sin
"The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous rules endures forever."

Women shouldn't have a leadership roles in the church.

Paul condemns it in both Romans 1:26-27 and 1 Cor. 6:9.

The local church's money should only be used for other Christians.
We NEVER see churches give money to people who weren't Christians.
Give 3 examples of expediencies for commands in Scripture.
Could be many, many things. (Time of day we take Lord's Supper, using an aid like PPT or song books, baptized in ANY body of water)
Believe that all believers have the Holy Spirit within them and this leads to spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues

"Instruments are fine to use in worship because David used them in the Old Testament."
The Old covenant is obsolete, having been nailed to the cross (Col. 2:14, Heb. 8:13)
We do not see an approved example of the New Testament church using instruments in worship. But we do see a specific command to sing! (Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16)
Account of Nadab and Abihu
Leviticus 10:1-2
It is okay to have a church building!
We are commanded to assemble (Hebrews 10:24-25)
We have the approved example of the 1st century church meeting in a variety of places… the temple, house to house, an upper room… these places were obviously BOUGHT at some point by someone.
There are specific commands as to the HOW we are supposed to pray, take Lord's Supper, sing, etc. in services... but there is never a specific command about WHERE this has to take place! A church building helps carry out these things we are commanded to do!
What are the two "rules" for expediencies?
The must: 1) aid in carrying out a general command 2) not contradict or replace specific commands!
Does not believe that the Trinity does not connect the Son and the Holy Spirit together through their tradition

"Once you are saved, you are always saved."
Gal. 5:4 “You have fallen away from grace.” / 2 Peter 2:20-22 "They are again entangled in them and overcome." /// Col. 1:22-23 “NOT SHIFTING… CONTINUE IN THE FAITH” // Heb. 2:1-3 – “Lest we drift away.” /// Heb. 10:26-29 – “If we go on sinning AFTER receiving the knowledge of the truth… There no longer remains a sacrifice for sins…”
