What is •
1630 thousands English settlers braved a voyage across the Atlantic to found the Massachusetts Bay Colony, located north of the plymouth colony in New England
•Royal charter, granted by England's king William III, that formally united the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Plymouth, and Maine into the royal colony of Massachusetts. Replacing the earlier royal charter granted to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629, which had been revoked in 1684, the charter also provided for a crown-appointed governor, a council to be elected by the General Court subject to the governor's veto, the abolishment of church membership as a requirement for suffrage, royal review of legislation, and appeals to the king in council.
