Where is the counseling center located? What services do they provide?
Location: Between Dorms and True Grits Many students have trouble adjusting to the challenges of college life. It is quite common to feel anxious or concerned about your course work, social life, or the everyday pressures of being a college student. The Counseling Center is a place where you can come to talk about these problems. We assist students who are struggling with a variety of difficulties. As a college student, you are likely to experience problems that are not easily resolved. Your usual ways of handling such problems may not be effective or may even be making the problems worse. If you are unsure about whether counseling is for you, we encourage you to make an appointment to discuss your concerns with a counselor. Any number of resources the Counseling Center provides could be of assistance to you, and there is no obligation to continue.

Students are welcome to visit the lab anytime during operating hour and to stay as long they would like. When students enter the lab, they should first sign-in, ask the person working the desk about the best tutor for their course.  If there is a tutor available, they will help you immediately. If there is not a tutor available, then you will be asked to sit and work quietly for a few minutes until a tutor can get to you. At this time, bring out the questions you have and the work you have already done so you are prepared.  The tutors are indicated by the tutoring signs, always feel free to let them know that you need help.  The wait time should not exceed ten minutes. The Writing Center is a tutoring space dedicated to helping UMBC students with writing in any class. The Writing Center offers one-on-one sessions that generally last between 30 minutes and an hour.
