Calcium Channel Blockers

-Direct relaxation of smooth muscle
-Dizziness, headache, peripheral edema
-Treat hypertension
-Report dizziness and swelling, change positions slowly
Beta Blockers

-Decreased heart rate, decreased contractility, decreased workload
-Bradycardia, bronchospasm, decreased blood pressure, changes in blood sugar, decreased erection
-Mild to moderate hypertension, angina
-Let your provider know of history of asthma, COPD, or diabetes, not to stop med suddenly, monitor heart rate and blood pressure
Direct Acting Vasodilators
-Hydralazine, minoxidil, nitroglycerin
-Direct relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
-Orthostatic hypotension, reflex tachycardia, palpitations, headache, nausea
-Hypertensive emergency
-Change positions slowly, monitor heart rate, notify provider if headache occurs
