100
Molecules move with the ______________ during diffusion and osmosis.
What is the concentration gradient?
100
No energy output by the cell to move molecules.
What are the energy requirements of passive transport?
100
Active transport requires energy in the form of what
What is ATP
100
Substance in which a solute is dissolved
What is a solvent?
200
When a membrane allows only certain materials to go into and out of cell.
What is selective permeability?
200
The direction molecules move during any kind of diffusion.
What is high to low concentration?
200
A special type of protein that helps molecules move across the plasma membrane.
What is an integral or transport protein?
200
Any time a cell uses energy to move molecules across the plasma membrane.
What is active transport?
200
Concentration of water is lower outside the cell than on the inside cell.
What is a hypertonic solution?
300
The portion of the phospholipid molecule that is repelled by water and forms the inner layers of the plasma membrane.
What are hydrophobic nonpolar tails?
300
Diffusion continues until the concentration is equal throughout the solution.
What is equilibrium?
300
Proteins that create a tunnel through which molecules can pass.
What are channel or transport proteins?
300
Molecules move against the concentration gradient in active transport. This means the molecules move in a particular direction.
What is from low to high concentration.
300
When cells shrink and shrivel in this solution.
What is a hypertonic solution?
400
The stable environment that the plasma membrane helps the cell maintain.
What is homeostasis?

The movement of water molecules across a cell membrane.
What is osmosis?
400
Diffusion, Facilitated Diffusion, and osmosis.
What are the three types of passive transport.
400
When a cell must use a "pump" to move materials it must expend some of this:
What is energy?
400
A solution that has equal solute and equal water concentration inside and outside the cell.
What is an isotonic solution?
500
A molecule made up of a phosphate head and two fatty acid tails and make up the bilayer of the plasma membrane.
What is a phospholipid?

Proteins that allow water and other molecules to get past the hydrophobic middle of a membrane.
What are transport proteins?
500
Proteins that help move materials across the plasma membrane.
What are integral or transport proteins?
