This is a structured de-escalation strategy in which an adult intentionally uses calm, supportive, and responsive interactions to reduce emotional intensity, maintain safety, and support regulation during moments of escalation. It stands for Listen, Empathize, Agree, and Partner.

This means that teachers are spread out in an area and watching for triggers, or escalations so they can step in and model or assist with problem solving.

This is an expectation to use when transitioning inside and outside, but can also help students at other times of the day. It involves having another child model what to do or help a child complete a task. The students can pick the friend to help them.

This resource is a location in the classroom that children can go when they are having strong feelings.

This happens when implementing a new strategy and means that a behavior usually gets worse before it gets better, but it also means that the strategy is working.
What is an extinction burst?
This is when you acknowledge a child who is doing what they are supposed to in the hopes that a child not following expectations will start. You then immediately acknowledge said child.

This can be used at a transition or clean up (or other time of day as needed) when a child isn't done with their activity or project and they want to finish it.
