When bleeding from this area of the face, it is an indication of this type of injury. Sometimes I bleed here from "picking" me.

I see irritation; the person having difficulty opening the body part, and it's located on the face. I also see water coming from it, an indication of redness, problems seeing, and potentially deformity. This will depend on the cause of injury. I generally have two of them on my face.

If the _________ is dry. Brush it off the skin carefully. I check the scene and the person's ABC's. I call 911/EMS if the burn covers more than 10 % of the body. I ensure the persons ABC's are present and perform a secondary survey. I protect myself by wearing PPE and I flush the affected area with a large amount of cool running water for at least 15 min.. I flush away from the body that has not been contaminated. I seek medical attention and refer to the MSDS sheets and/or call the Poison control centre for first aid measures. Hint: PG 111

I am concerned that all my immunization shots are up to date. With this type of injury, the process of the injury is an "in" and "out" process. HINT Pg 89-90

This type of burn is generally compared to sunburn. I check the scene and the person's ABC's. I call 911/EMS if there is a significant amount of pain or they become unconscious. Once I ensure the ABC's are present, I perform a secondary survey and cool the burns with running or standing water for at least 10-20 min. I may consider applying an antibiotic ointment after checking the person’s five rights of medications and assuring of no allergy. Hint PG 113
What is superficial burn? (1st degree)

I am an injury of which the object "stays" in. Example: a knife, stick or a nail. I have checked the scene; the person's ABC's and called 911. I will do a secondary survey and keep the person in a comfortable position treating for the cause of shock. I LEAVE the object in place and stabilize it covering the wound with clean sterile dressings and/or bandages! I seek immediate medical attention!
What is an impaled object?

When possible I will pick it up by the crown not the root. I then put it in milk and label it with the time of injury and the person's name. I should seek medical attention immediately being the best chance of re-attachment is in the first 60 minutes. If milk is not available, I can use some of the person's saliva.
What is a knocked out tooth?

The procedure is very similar to an "Impaled Object". I check the scene, and the person's ABC's. I leave the object in place and stabilize it with round bulky gauze or dressings. Then I use bandages to keep the dressings in place.

What is the first aid procedure for a Penatrating Chest Injury?

This type of burn is a considered worse than a superficial burn. l see redness, pain, possible swelling and blisters at the site of injury. Once the scene is safe and the person's ABC's are present, I perform a secondary survey and decide whether I will call 911/EMS. If the burn covers more than 10% of their body, their experience a great deal of pain or they become unconscious I'll call 911/EMS immediately. I complete the secondary survey and cool the burn with running or standing water for at least 10-20 min. This may be too painful, or the affected area may not fit under the tap. I then can cover the burn with a cool moist sterile dressing or clean cloth to stop the burning process. Once the cooling process is complete, I'll cover the burn with a loose dry, sterile dressing, preferably non-stick. I then seek immediate medical attention!
What is Partial thickness burn? (2nd degree)

There are two of us and we are similar. Our tasks are just a little different. One of us "dresses" the injury, and the other one attaches me to the injury. Either way when applying us I check for circulation before and after I am complete applying us.

What is the first aid treatment for a nosebleed?

I could see blood and/or fluid coming from within. The person could complain of sudden or intense pain of this body part that is located on the side of my face. The person may complain of hearing problems, swelling and/or deformity. If the bleeding is from an external wound, I treat it the same way as I would any external wound, cut or scrape. If there is a foreign object that looks like it could be removed, and I don't suspect a head and/or a spinal injury, I may choose to remove it. I would have the person tilt their head towards the side that the object is stuck in. I use my fingers (no tools) to remove it. If the person has a serious head and/or spinal injury and blood or other fluid is coming from the affected area, I would: 1) let it drain, and do not apply direct pressure and instruct the person not to move if possible. 2) I would cover the ear lightly with a sterile dressing. 3) I would provide continual care until EMS arrives.
What is an ear injury?

I could see pain, deformity, swelling, bruising at the site, shock, guarded or shallow breathing. A hemothorax, pneumothorax or a "flail chest" could also be the result of this type of injury. (hint PG 105-106)
What is a blunt or flail chest injury?

This burn will probably be red, painful at the outer part of the burn with blisters and be possibly swollen. It may be charred or waxy white flesh and an open wound. I check the scene and the person's ABC's. I will call 911 if: the burn covers more than 10% of the body, they’re in a great deal of pain or unconsciousness. I then complete a secondary survey and cool a small portion of the burn at a time so as I don’t put the person in shock. I'm cooling with standing or running water for at least 10-20 min and if this is too painful I'll cover it with a moist sterile cloth or dressing to cool the burn. Once the cooling is complete I apply dry, sterile dressings and I don't pull off any clothing that is melted to the person and NEVER apply any grease to any burn. I use standing or running water and never ice or cotton on burns. If the burn involves more than 10% of the body, a large area of the head, face, hands, feet or groin I'm seeking immediate medical attention! Hint PG115-116
