Exercise increases rate of cell respiration because energy needs are higher. More oxygen is consumed because it is the final electron acceptor in the ETC. Without oxygen, humans cannot perform cellular respiration and therefore cannot synthesize ATP.

Caused by infection in olfactory supporting cells that led to temporary loss of function. This in turn affects the sensory receptor cells. It was determined that it was not caused by damage to the olfactory nerve as smell was recovered relatively quick.
