The Battle of Beaver Dams (1813)

Secord delivered her warning to Lieutenant James FitzGibbon in 1813 at the current DeCew House.

On June 23, about 500 American soldiers under Lt.-Col. Charles Boerstler left Fort George intending to surprise a British outpost at DeCew House.

Laura Secord, living in Queenston, learned of the plan and travelled to warn the British.

The following day, June 24, 1813, Indigenous warriors—primarily Kahnawà:ke (Mohawk) and other Haudenosaunee warriors, along with Anishinaabe warriors—ambushed the American column near Beaver Dams. British troops under FitzGibbon subsequently helped secure the American surrender.
