What organelle is responsible for Synthesizing lactase?
Ribsomes
to which kingdom would an organism belong whose cells are multicellular and lack a cell wall?
Animalia
An organism containing a nucleus.
Eucaryotic
What is the difference between autotrophs and heterotrophs?
Autotrophs make their own food while heterotrophs must consume other organisms for food.
What does a plant cell have that an animal cell does not?
Cell Wall
What organelle stores water and nutrients in animal cells?
Vacuole
Which Kingdom am I in?
Crenarchaeota is found in salty environments. They are thermophilic and acidophilic.
archaebacteria
The most primitive of all the cell types.
Prokaryotes/Bacteria
What is the scientific name for unwound DNA and where is it located in prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
chromatin, pro: cytoplasm, eu: nucleus
Name the three protists we discussed and state a unique structure specific to each.
Amoeba: pseudopods
paramecium: cilia
euglena: eyespot
If a cell's Golgi were to stop functioning, what would be the immediate consequence for the relationship between the ER and Cell Membrane?
Proteins would not be modified or packaged correctly to be secreted out of the cell membrane.
what kingdom?- eukaryotic, multi-celled-photosynthetic.
plantae
What allowed scientists to switch from the "moderna" classification of bacteria to the two separate kingdoms we have now?
technological advancements
a structure that performs a specific function in the cells
organelle
They would no longer have the enzymes necessary to break down substances because there would be no ribosomes to make them.
What organelle digests waste in the cell and what molecules does it contain that allow it to do so?
Lysosome, enzymes
List the kingdoms that are/can be unicellular and state if they are prokaryotes or eukaryotes.
Fungi: eukaryote, Protist: eukaryote, archeabacteria: prokaryote, eubacteria: prokaryote
Which kingdoms are porkaryotic and which are eukaryotic?
pro: eubacteria, archeabacteria
eu: animalia, plantae, fungi, protist
What are the two major differences between eubacteria and archeabacteria?
Archeabacteria: live in extreme environments due to their protein rich cell wall.
Eubacteria: live with humans and have cell wall made of peptidoglycan.
Chloroplast: photosynthesis, Mitochondria: make energy, Nucleus: store DNA
Explain the relationship between the ribosome, vesicle, rough ER, Nucleolus, golgi, and cell membrane.
The nucleolus makes ribosomes, which synthesize proteins, which are then transported through the rough ER to the golgi where it is package into a vesicle. The vesicle then delivers the packaged protein to the cell membrane and fuses to it allowing the protein to be released out of the cell.
Name the kingdoms of life and give an example of each.
Animalia: humans, Plantae: tree, Protista: amoeba, Fungi: mushroom, Eubacteria: E. coli, archeabacteria: extremophile
List 4 differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
Pro: no nucleus, no M.B.O's, circular DNA, DNA in cytoplasm, smaller
Name the three different types of vacuoles we discussed this unit and state which specific kingdoms they are found in.
contractile vacuole: protist, vacuole: animalia, large central vacuole: plants
Name 3 organelles that ARE present in prokarytoes along with their functions.
DNA: genetic information, Cell membrane: controls what goes in and out of cell, cell wall: structure and support, ribosomes: protein synthesis, pili: sexual reproduction
