What time should you go to bed the night before the test?

What is one way you can "take a break" from the test before you go back to double check?
Stretch your legs, arms, or neck. Get a drink or bathroom break. Splash some water on your face. Take 3 deep breathes. Cross and uncross your legs a few times. Think of sitting on a beach and looking at the relaxing ocean. Practice right now with your partner! :)

What should you eat for breakfast the morning of the test?
Healthy food that will give your brain power. For example: toast with peanut butter, eggs, fruit, cereal/oatmeal, yogurt with granola, and juice/milk.

What is the purpose of text features?
They are meant to be read. They give you MORE information about what the article is about. Be sure to CIRCLE and label the text features as there may be a question about them on the test.

What should you do if you read a paragraph and you don't understand what it is saying?
Go back and read it again. Sometimes you can read a paragraph up to 4 times before fully understanding it.

If you don't know the meaning of a word, where should you look?
Use the context of the word to help you. Look around the word for possible meanings.

What are your choices to keep you occupied, or busy, when you are done with the test?
Nothing. This is a trick question. If you have a lot of time left, go back and retake the test to learn more about what the passage is about. Absolutely NO talking or playing when you are done...not even reading a book!

What should you wear on the day of the test?
Clothing that you will feel comfortable in! You do not need to bring your backpack. Only bring your lunch kit.

What should you write next to the title of an article or poem?
Your prediction about "Who/What" the passage will be about.

How many times are poems meant to be read?
More than once! Remember, the end of most poems usually have a surprise so sometimes you need to go back and reread it knowing what the end has to say.

What should I underline in the question?
What is being asked of you. For example, key vocabulary words, line or paragraph numbers, and question stems.

What is a bubble check?
When you go back to make sure your answer in your test booklet is the same as the bubble you marked on your scantron.

How many hours do you have to take the test?
4 hours. When we are done, we will have recess and relax for the rest of the day!!

What should I read first: the test questions and answer choices or the passage?

What does, "chunk, envision, and summarize" mean?
It means to... 1. Chunk the text by drawing a line below certain paragraphs. 2. Picture what you just read in your head. 3. Write the main idea of the paragraph next to it.

What can my teacher help me with?
They can read directions and tell you to do your best. They are not allowed to read hard words or give you the meaning. They cannot help you understand what you are reading.

Can you bring a stuffed animal, book, or notebook paper to play with when you are done with the test?
No, you are not allowed to bring anything to the test. We will have pencils and a snack for you.

How many questions will there be?
There will be around 5-6 passages and around 50 questions.

What order should you take the test in? Front to back? Easy passages to hardest? Hardest to easiest?
Start with the first article and work your way to the end of the test. Do not skip around within the articles because it is likely you will forget to answer all the questions.

What is the best strategy for answering a summary question?
Look at all of your main idea notes you wrote next to each chunk in the text. Then see if the summary has a beginning, middle, and end all included. If there is a moral of a story, be sure it is included too.

What if you come to a question you just don't know the answer to?
Eliminate 2 of the most obviously incorrect answer choices. Then take your best guess. Circle it so you remember to go back and double check it in the end. Sometimes the answer to a test question might be hidden somewhere in the test.

If my neighbor and I are both finished, may we whisper to each other?
No. You may put your head down and take a nap. Any reminders will result in permanent removal from the test and your score will be a zero.
