Hypnotic medication that is used ONLY on mechanically ventilated patients; most common side effect is hypotension
Propofol
This medication is typically your first line vasopressor to treat refractory hypotension following fluid resuscitation for treatment of sepsis.
Levophed (Norepinephrine)
This medication is given for control of chest pain with MI, heart failure, and hypertension.
This medication is given post-ischemic stroke with a negative CT for head bleed.
Alteplase
This medication can be given for SVT. It is pushed fast. Before it is given, the patient must be hooked up to the code cart and have two ACLS nurses at the bedside.
Adenosine (Adenocard)
This is the normal dose range for Precedex (Dexmedotomidine).
0.2-1.5 mcg/kg/hr
These are your normal dosage and titration parameters for the infusion of Levophed (Norepinephrine).
0.5-30 mcg/min
This medication is given to treat ventricular arrhythmias and tachyarrythmias. For tachyarrhythmias, it is usually given with an initial 150 mg bolus, then 1 mg/min x 6 hrs, and then 0.5 mg/min until discontinued.
Amiodarone (Nexterone)
This medication is commonly used in neuro patients and decreases blood pressure. It is typically started at 2.5-5 mg/hr with a maximum dose of 15 mg/hr.
Nicardipine (Cardene)
This NMDA receptor antagonist can be used as an adjunct for pain management; also used for general anesthesia, procedural sedation, and RSI
Ketamine (Ketalar)
Two of the most common side effects of Precedex (Dexmedetomidine).
Hypotension & Bradycardia
This medication is typically your second-line vasopressor for hypotension following adequate fluid resuscitation for treatment of sepsis.
Vasopressin
This medication is indicated for cardiogenic shock or septic shock (with low risk of arrhythmias and relative bradycardia); it's effect is dose dependent with beta effects at 5-10 mcg/kg/min and alpha effects at >10 mcg/kg/min
Dopamine
This is the most common side effect after Alteplase administration.
Bleeding
These two medications can be ordered to paralyze a patient who is on high ventilator requirements or has an elevated ICP.
Vecuronium /Rocuronium & Nimbex (Cisatracurium)
This sedative medication is indicated for control of agitated patients who may or may not be intubated. It is especially effective for patients suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Precedex (Dexmedetomidine)
This medication is typically your third-line vasopressor used for hypotension despite adequate fluid resuscitation for treatment of sepsis. Its normal dosage is 1-20 mcg/min.
Epinephrine (Adrenalin)
These are the two side effects after Nitroglycerine administration.
This medication is used in subarachnoid hemorrhage and other traumatic brain injuries (such as stroke) to reduce vasospasms and secondary injury.
Nimodipine (Nymalize)
This medication is for treatment of bleeding esophageal varicies. Its action is to slow blood flow into the portal vein.
Octreotide (Sandostatin)
This skeletal muscle relaxant is commonly used during RSI. Anesthesia must be at bedside during administration with rescue equipment available. Anesthesia will usually ask you your patient's most recent potassium level before administration of this drug.
Succinylcholine (Anectine)
This vasopressor is frequently used in surgery. It is helpful for patients who require vasopressors that have tachycardia or arrhythmias with other vasopressor agents; it's normal dose is 40-200 mcg/min.
This medication helps improve the heart squeeze. It is indicated for cardiogenic shock or decompensated heart failure due to systolic dysfunction with a normal BP. Its dosage range is 2-20 mcg/kg/min.
Dobutamine (Dobutrex)
In the Disney movie, Pocahontas, John Smith suffers a gun shot wound. Pocahontus brings him bark to help decrease the pain and inflammation associated with his injury. What kind of tree does she take the bark from?
Willow Tree
Octreotide (Sandostatin) is typically infused as a continuous drip at ____ mcg/hr for 72 hours.
25-50 mcg/hr
