Electronic instrument that combines several measurement functions in one unit. Can measure voltage, current, and resistance.
What is a multimeter?
Controls the shifting process for an electronically automated transmission.
What is the TCU?
Units to measure resistance
What are Ohms?
Indicates the status of the anti-lock brake system.
What is the ABS indicator lamp?
is an electronic control system that works with the service brake system to monitor and automatically limit wheel lock-up events during vehicle braking.
What is ABS/Stability control system?
Consists of either a 12v or 24v incandescent light bulb connected to an insulated lead and sharpened metal probe.
What is a test light?
Provide extremely accurate shift finger position data to the transmission control unit.
What are Position Sensors?
The loss of voltage caused by the flow of current through a resistance.
What is Voltage Drop?
This carries power, ABS fault lamp status, and serial communications to and from trailer anti-lock braking systems.
What is the ABS Trailer Chord?
Measures actual steering wheel position
What is a Steering wheel position sensor?
Can be used to check for both open circuits and grounded circuits when either chassis power or ground is removed from the circuit.
What is a self powered test light?
Consists of two shift motors: the shift finger and the shift finger position sensor.
What is the Electronic Shift Assembly?
The meter should be connected in parallel with the voltage source when doing this procedure.
What is measuring voltage?
Produces an AC signal when the tone wheel is being rotated. It is a sender device used for reading the speed of a vehicles wheel rotation.
What is a Wheel speed sensor?
Brings together Bendix adaptive cruise control with braking features along with collision mitigation technology, and our full-stability technology
What is Bendix Wingman?
Used to probe a wire where it is difficult to support. After placing the wire in a wrap around support, a trigger is pulled and the wire is pierced.
What is a "wrap around probe?"
Located in the output shaft bearing support housing. Targets a tone wheel mounted on the shaft. The controller uses this sensor to detect output shaft speed and confirm that shifts have been made.
What is the Output Speed Sensor?
The multi meter should be connected is series when performing this procedure.
What is measuring current/amperage?
High capacity, on/off air valves that contain a pair of electric solenoids used to control air brake application pressure. As these two “inlet-air” and “exhaust-air” solenoids are energized and de-energized by electrical signals from the ABS ECU, the controller can pump the brakes.
What is an ABS Modulator Valve?
1,5,3,6,2,4
ISM Cummins Firing Order
Used to translate serial data from the DLC into a format readable by a desktop or laptop computer.
What is a Data Link Adapter?
Interrupts the circuit to the starter solenoid when it is not activated, preventing the vehicle from starting.
When the driver turns on the key, the transmission controller goes through an initiation and self-check process.
What is the Starter Enable Relay?
"One volt pushes one amp through one Ohms resistance"
What is Ohms Law
The vehicle bus recommended practice used for communication and diagnostics among vehicle components. Used in the commercial vehicle area for communication throughout the vehicle.
What is J1939 Data Link?
Measures actual vehicle direction in comparison with steering wheel position.
What is a Yaw sensor?
