Power can be very good or very bad depending on the hands it is in. Throughout the book, there is a struggle for power over the government. In the wrong hands power can get to peoples heads and make them do things they normally wouldn't do. I would also say that a theme besides power would be to only do something a pursue it if you know you are going some where with it because if you arent going o succeed and you know that, just stop.

Secrets are a big thing in this book. The secret tris is trying to keep that she is divergent is a very big secret that eventually causes her to lie to her friends and family. Secrets are good to keep, but if you keep them for to long they can make you bundle up and exclude you from the rest of the world.
