Why do we not pray the prayer of reconciliation during the liturgy on Covenant Thursday?

The Prayer of Reconciliation is not prayed to denounce Judas’ kiss again, and also because reconciliation between God and Man has not yet been fulfilled through God the Word, the Son of Man, our Lord Jesus Christ, on the wood of the Cross. This will not happen until Good Friday.

The women specifically Mary Magdalene

Who is Joseph of Arimathea?

Is he historical?

Joseph of Arimathea was a member of the council who voted on crucifying Christ, but he wasn't there at the time.

Joseph of Arimathea was a Jewish leader; his existence can't be doubted. They didn't like the Jewish leaders; there would have been no reason to make up a Joseph for the sake of a fictional story.

Joseph of Arimathea requested that Pilate take Christ's body from the cross and bury it properly.

He became a follower of Christ after his resurrection.

How secure was the tomb?

BONUS: Where in the liturgy do we commemorate this action?

The tomb was a slanted groove that led down to a low entrance, a large disk-shaped stone rolled down a groove and lodged into place. Then another smaller stone was put in front of it to secure the disk. It would have taken several men to roll it back. The tomb was also guarded.

Fun fact: In liturgy after the offering of the lamb, when Abouna covers the alter, he places the prospherin (the white covering) and then the seal (the triangle folded viel on top) to signify the smaller stone that was put to secure the tomb.

What two hymns were said by the Ancient Egyptians during their burial ceremonies, that we say on Good Friday?

  1. The music of the hymn Golgotha has its roots from the Ancient Egyptians. It was used during their burials ceremonies, and the Church incorporated its music into this rite, with lyrics suited for the burial of Christ.
  2. Similarly, the music of the hymn Pekethronos was chanted by the Ancient Egyptians to express their grief for the dead separating from them, which is evident in the first half of the hymn. With this music also, they rejoiced that the deceased had bordered the "Sun-Ship" that would take the soul to the god Ra to grant it eternal life. The joyous music is evident in the second half of Pekthronos. .

Why did they cast lots for His robe?

Christ's robe was a seamless robe, which was rare and required expert weaving skills. Knwoing the value of this role, the soldiers preferred not to tear it for parts so they gambled for it as a prize.

Not only was a prophecy fulfilled (Pslms 22:18-19), but it has a greater meaning. The Jewish high priests were the ones who wore a seamless robe, even though Christ was not a priest in his earthly ministry, but "he is the Great High Priest of heaven who sanctifies and blesses us.. he was literally both the Priest preforming the sacrifice and the sacrifical victim"
