What is the Earth ally responsible for being a leader in our academic space. They are responsible for leading icebreakers, taking attendance, and leading prayers and petitions. In addition to this, Earth takes a leadership role by volunteering first and asking questions during programming.

The Annual Environment & Spirituality (AES) Summit is Faith in Place's annual regional gathering that brings together diverse faith communities to explore the intersection of environmental justice, climate action, and spiritual stewardship.

What is Faith in Place's Theory of Change?

The environmental crisis is a spiritual crisis, rooted in a disconnection from one another, our traditions, and the Earth. When Green Teams are supported in repairing relationships, they grow networks of care that lead to more just and resilient communities.

Name one fact about our guest speaker from the AES Summit. 

1. Wrote the First General Audience Book on Climate Change: In 1989, he published The End of Nature, which is widely recognized as the first book written for a general audience about global warming. It has since been translated into dozens of languages.   

2. Co-Founded 350.org: In 2008, he co-founded 350.org, one of the world's first global, grassroots climate campaigns. The organization takes its name from climate scientist James Hansen's target limit for atmospheric carbon dioxide ($350\text{ ppm}$).   

3. Founded Third Act: He established Third Act, an advocacy organization designed specifically to mobilize people over the age of 60 to take collective action on climate change and political justice.   

4. Awarded the "Alternative Nobel": In 2014, McKibben was awarded the Right Livelihood Award (often called the "Alternative Nobel Prize") in the Swedish Parliament for his leadership in building global grassroots support against climate change.   

5. Has a Species Named After Him: In 2014, scientists honored his contributions to environmentalism by naming a newly discovered species of woodland gnat (Megophthalmidia mckibbeni) after him.

What is the theory of change for the Nature Conservancy? 

The Nature Conservancy works to protect forests, rivers, and wildlife by buying land, fixing damaged habitats, and planting trees. Instead of keeping people out, they work directly with local families, farmers, and Indigenous groups to teach and share smart ways to care for the earth. When people and nature work together, plants and animals stay safe, nature stays strong, and communities have a healthy planet to live on.

By bringing people together to heal spiritual disconnections and grow local networks of care, the Summit equips "Green Teams" and advocates with the collective resilience needed to lead grassroots action for a just, thriving planet.
