What is an adjective?
A sentence that expresses great emotion such as excitement, surprise, happiness and anger, and ends with an exclamation point
What is an exclamatory sentence?
A word, words, or a phrase in a sentence, paragraph, and/or whole text that help reason out the meaning of an unfamiliar word.
What are context clues?
A comparison of two unlike things in which a word of comparison (like or as) is used (e.g., The ant scurried as fast as a cheetah).
What is a simile?
Categories that describe a type of something (fantasy, science fiction; jazz, rock n roll)
What is a genre?
A word that takes the place of a noun (he; she; they)
What is a pronoun?
used either to mark the beginning and end of a title or quoted passage
What are quotation marks?
The rising action, the climax, the falling action, and the resolution.
What is a story mountain?
A type of text structure in which a difficulty is identified and resolutions are made.
What is problem and solution?
To capture all of the most important parts of the original text (paragraphs, story, poem) but express them in a much shorter space and as much as possible in the reader’s own words. We use: SWBST for fiction and Main Idea and details for Informational (non fiction)
What is a summary?
A word that combines an adjective and a verb; typically expresses the manner in which something is done (gently; soon, now, cheerfully)
What is an adverb?
shows a separation of ideas or elements within the structure of a sentence
What is a comma?
narrator’s perspective from which the events are depicted
What is point of view?
The author’s method of structuring a text; the way a text is structured from beginning to end. In literary works, the structure could include flashback and foreshadowing, for example. In nonfiction works, the structure could include sequence, question-answer, or cause-effect, for example.
