Engineering Design Process
The first step of the EDP where you identify a problem to solve
ASK
The third step of the EDP, you pick one solution and plan what to make.
PLAN
The fourth step of the EDP where you make the solution.
CREATE
The sixth and last step of the EDP where you identify ways your solution could be better.
IMPROVE
These things are called: creations of the mind. There are four main types of these things.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The second step of the EDP where you brainstorm different solutions to the problem.
IMAGINE
A legal document that gives an inventor the exclusive right to make, use, or sell an invention for a limited amount of time.
PATENT

The fifth step of the EDP where you test to see if the solution works.
TEST
This type of patent protects how something WORKS.
Utility Patent
This type of patent protects how something LOOKS.
Design Patent
Something a solution NEEDS to do or include.
Criteria
Something a solution CAN’T do or is limited by.
Constraint
A description within a patent that explains the problem the invention is solving AND how it does it.
Abstract
A written description in a patent that explains how a part of an invention works.

What is an outsole?
The bottom of the shoe that touches the ground
What is a midsole?
An in-between shoe layer that provides cushioning and support for your feet
What is an upper?
The top part of the shoe that covers and protects your foot
What is a trade secret?
Information kept secret because it has economic value.
What is copyright?
The law that protects original creative works from being stolen.
A word, symbol, logo, or design that identifies a company or product and makes it recognizable.
