A view from a greater distance than a long shot, in which if people appear, they are small dots in the landscape, if at all
What is an Extreme Long Shot?
An editing system used to maintain consistency of both time & space in the film.
What is continuity editing
When a camera is moved horizontally (left to right or vice versa) on a fixed head
What is a pan?
When the camera is placed directly ABOVE the subject, often 90 degrees
What is an overhead or aerial shot?
A quick synopsis of a film in just a sentence or two
What is a logline?
The subject fills most of the frame & little of the surroundings is shown - if the subject is someone’s upper body, the close-up shot normally reveals the entire head & maybe some of the shoulders
What is a Close-Up shot?
A series of separate images, moving or still, that are edited together to create a continuous sequence.
What is a montage?
When the camera moves vertically (up to down or down to up) on a fixed head
What is a tilt?
When the camera is roughly at the same height or perspective as that of a character or person in the film
What is a point of view shot?
A series of shots that give the impression of continuous action taking place in continuous time & space
What is a scene?
A shot in a scene that shows where, & sometimes when, the events that follow are to take place
What is an Establishing shot?
Where an actor looks during a scene that informs the viewer to what the character sees
What is eye-line matching?
When the camera is physically moved closer or further from the subject - the viewer seems to move toward or away from the subject
What is a dolly shot?
This kind of shot is often used to give viewers the sense that what we are seeing is “off limits”
What is an obstructed shot?
The event that sets the main character (the hero) on their journey
A shot in which the subject may been seen in its entirety & much of the surroundings is visible
What is a Long shot
Any transition, audio or visual, that uses elements from the previous scene to fluidly bring the viewer through to the next scene
What is a match cut?
When the camera moves physically through the scene for an extended amount of time - sometimes used to follow along with a subject’s movements
What is a tracking shot?
This is shot is sometimes used used to present characters from a perspective that makes them seem vulnerable or diminished
What is a high angle shot?
A single, constant take (with a camera) uninterrupted by editing, interruptions or cuts

An internal desire that the hero is not aware of, but ends up driving them through their character arc
