What is proper knife grip?
Hold the blade between your thumb and index finger just past the handle, wrap your remaining three fingers securely around the handle. This grip offers maximum control, balance, and prevents slipping.
What do you do to ensure cutting board safety?
Place a damp paper towel or silicone mat under the board. Ensure the board does not slide or wobble during use. Keep your cutting surface clean and clear of scraps.
What is Claw Grip?
Curl the fingers of your non-cutting hand inward like a bear claw. Rest your knuckles against the flat side of the knife blade. Always tuck your thumb behind your fingers to avoid exposing it.
What do you do if a knife falls?
Quickly jump backward away from the counter or table. Pull your hands into your chest. Do not attempt to catch a falling knife under any circumstance. Allow it to hit the floor completely before picking it ip
What is safe hand positioning?
Keep the hand holding the food flat, anchored, or in a claw grip. Ensure your guide fingers are always a safe distance away from the cutting edge. Never look away from your hands while cutting.
What are the general knife-safety rules?
Keep knives sharp; dull blades slip and cause injuries. Never submerge a knife in a sink full of soapy water. Wash, dry immediately by wiping away from the edge, and store safely.
What do you do when carrying knives?
Point the tip of the knife directly toward the floor. Turn the sharp edge of the blade backward, facing behind you. Hold the knife closely at your side while walking.
What do you do when passing/transporting knives?
Set the knife down on a clean board or table. Let the other person pick it up by the handle themselves. If passing directly, hold the spine and present the handle to them.
