Ch.1 What is Locard's Exchange Principal?
When two things come in contact physical matter is exchanged. Some sort of physical evidence is left at every scene.
Ch.5 What is A-G-C-T-A-C-T-A-T-T-G-G in a corresponding template DNA sequence
T-C-G-A-T-G-A-T-A-A-C-C
Ch.10 What bug is first to arrive to a dead body
Blowfly
Ch.14 What are the three basic requirements to produce a fire
Heat, fuel, and oxygen
Ch.19 Name one piece hardware
Mouse, disk monitor, etc.
Ch.2 What is class evidence and what is individual evidence?
Class evidence places a piece of evidence within. particular group like a pipe with a certain brand of car.
While individual evidence is evidence with a specific origin, such as scratches on a test fired bullet.
Ch.6 To determine whether blood is from human or an animal what test is performed
Precipitin test
Ch.11 The mobile phase in gas chromatography is
The gas
Ch.13 Name one derivative of opiods
Fentanyl, Methadone, Carfentanil, and Tramadol
Ch.16 What are land and groove marks from
Ch.3 What is the definition of pseudoscience give 2 examples.
The opposite of true science. Beliefs not backed up- by science. Ex). Snake oil and astronomy, etc.
Ch.4 Which microscope has the ability to examine larger objects in 3-dimensions readily
Stereoscopic
Cause- The specific injury that leads to death
Manner- The determination of how a disease or injury leads to death
Ch.15 What is the difference between chemical and physical properties
Chemical: Properties that can be measured only by attempting to change the chemical identity of the material itself through some sort of chemical transformation
Physical: Properties that can be measured without changing chemical identity of a material.
Ch.17 What is a spectrograph
A device that records different frequencies we use to to do voice analysis
1. Team Leader
2. Photographer
3. Sketch map artist
4. Evidence collectors
5. Specialists
A technique used in chemical analysis to separate molecules charged molecules, like DNA, according to size. AN electric current is applied across the gel so that one end of the gel has a positive charge and the other end has a negative charge. The4 movement of charged molecules is called migration.
Ch.9 What 3 bones make up the pelvis
1. Hip bones (2)
2. Sacrum
3. Coccyx
Ch.12 What is th relationship between frequency and wavelength
The wave with shorter wavelength will have higher frequency longer wavelength will have lower frequency.
Ch.16 What is rifling
The marks on the inside of a barrel of a gun that causes the bullet to spiral.
Ch.1 Explain all cases, Frye, Daubert, Joiner, and Khumo.
Frye (1923)- the decision to not include the lie detector evidence in the trial for they had a confession. The Frye standard became the standard for the admissibility of all expert scientific testimony.
Daubert (1993)- Gives the power of deciding admissible evidence to the judge.
Joiner (1995)- That the evidence used in court must be gathered by professionals in that field.
Khumo (1999)- stated to make sure that an expert employees the same level of intellect as an expert in the relevant field.
Ch.7 What are the three layers in hair AND the three scale patterns on a hair shaft
Layers in hair:
Cuticle Cortex Medulla
Scale patterns:
Coronal (crown) Spinous (petal) Imbricate (flattened)
Ch.10 Name and explain all 5 stages of decay
1. The fresh stage- starts from the point of death and can last a couple days. Insects start to arrive and lay their eggs. Fresh sage ends when the buildup of gases begins to be visible
2. The bloated stage- purification begins and a large amount of gas is produced and inflates boy cavities. Internal insect activity is noticeable. Pronounced discoloration to the body due to blood pooling. Maggots from different stages are mixed together.
3. The decay stage- begins when the abdominal wall ruptures. The gas releases and the carcass collapses. The maggots increase and the heat increases from maggot mass.
4. The post decay stage- when the body dries out completely. The larva has consumed most of the tissue and leave the body to pupate.
5. The dry stage- can last for several months or even years. Very little of the body remains, some bones nd teeth remain.
