Amherst French tradition of presenting yearly gifts, like tobacco, tools, and clothing, to the Indians. The gifts had played an important role in the harmonious relationship between the French and Indians. Limited the amount of guns and gunpowder the Indians were allowed to have. Without weapons, the Indians weren’t able to hunt enough food to feed their families.
