You have two friends you want to play with but one says, “If you play with her, I won’t be your friend anymore!”

“I can be friends with both of you.”

Others shouldn't choose your friends for you.

100

Your friend says something that hurts your feelings.

"You cry too much!"

"You are annoying me today"

Sometimes friends have bad days and they may say things they don't mean but you should still tell them,

“That hurt my feelings. Please don’t say that to me.”

100

A friend keeps going to your dest and taking your things without asking.

Calmly tell her to stop and you can say, “Please ask me before you take my things.”

100

Your friend says you have to give her your toys or snack or she won’t be your friend.

"Give me those or I won't be your friend anymore!"

You don't have to give someone something for them to be your friend.

“I don’t have to give you something for you to be my friend.”

200

A girl keeps calling you a nickname you don’t like.

“Please stop calling me that. I don’t like it.”

If she continues, tell an adult.

200

You accidentally say something that hurts your friend’s feelings.

"Your drawing looks like a Kindergartener did it!"

You see your friend looks sad but you didn't mean it to hurt her feelings:

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”

200

You tell your friend to stop doing something and she says, “Ugh! You’re too sensitive!”

You can say: “It still bothers me, so I need you to stop.”

If your friend doesn't stop, tell an adult.

200

You are playing your favorite game and your friend says, “I don’t want to play right now.”

Respect their decisions. Say, “Okay, maybe later.” Find someone or something else to play with.

300

A friend you play with all the time at school says, “You can’t play with us!”

Ask, "Why can't I join you?”

If they continue making you feel left out:

1. Find an adult and tell them.

2. Find another activity or friend to play with

300

Your friend gets mad because you won a game and says you cheated.

"No you didn't win fairly! You were cheating!"

Stay calm and say,

“I didn’t cheat. We can play again if you want.”

300

Your friend is mad at you but won’t tell you why.

You try to talk to her but she just says, "Don't talk to me, I'm mad at you!"

You can ask, “Why are you upset with me? Can we talk about it?”

If she says no, Give her space. She may not be ready right now but maybe can talk later.

300

Someone says, “If you tell the teacher, you’re a snitch.”

That's not true. Usually people say that because they don't want to get in trouble for doing something they're not supposed to.

Tell an adult anyway if someone is being hurt or bullied. Getting help is different from tattling.

400

Your best friend plays with someone else at recess and you feel left out.

Remember that friends can have other friends. Ask to join them or find someone else to play with.

400

Someone says, “Your clothes are ugly.”

That's their opinion! Opinions of others shouldn't change the way you think so if you like your clothes, say it.

“I like my clothes, and that’s what matters.” Walk away instead of arguing.

400

Your friend wants to play one game, but you don't like that game and want to play something different.

Compromise: “Let’s play yours first and then mine.”

400

Your friend tells other kids not to talk to you because she’s mad at you.

"Don't talk to Maisie, I'm mad at her. No one talk to her"

Find out why she is upset and try to work things out.

You can also Talk to your friends and say, "Hey guys you can still talk to me."

If they repeatedly ignore you and leave you out, tell an adult.

500

Two girls are whispering and laughing, and you think they’re talking about you.

Don’t assume they’re talking about you. They could be talking about something funny they watched or a game they played.

500

Your best friends want you to make fun of another girl with them.

"Maisie look, that girls shoes are so ugly right! Lets go tell her!"

Say, “No, that’s mean. I’m not doing that.”

Just because our best friends tell us to do something, we don't have to. Especially if its something unkind.

500

Someone makes a mean comment and then says, “It was just a joke.”

If you know its mean and its not funny to you, say it.

“I didn’t think it was funny. Please don’t joke about me like that.”

If they continue tell an adult

500

Someone repeatedly makes fun of you even though you’ve asked them to stop.

Say “Stop. I already told you I don’t like that,”

Walk away and tell a trusted adult because they continue to be mean
