Big 6 used to be used as a term that referred to the best 6 Pokemon at any given time. Now, it is the most dominant team in all of VGC history. The sixth slot can change, whereas the core 5 stay the same. These five included Primal Groudon and Xerneas as the restricted Pokemon (this was a dual restricted format) and were the first dominant "sun setter" + "fairy type attacker" duo that would become prominent in VGC for years to come. This team also featured two Mega evolutions, the two most dominant Megas at the time, being Mega Kangaskhan and Salamence. Kangaskhan had the signature ability Parental Bond, which let its child hit for 50% damage on top of every hit that the mother did. This was very good when combined with the move Power-Up Punch, which raised your attack stat whenever you used the move. This combination allowed Kangaskhan to attack twice and get two attack boosts on the same turn. They also learned Fake Out, a very good move in VGC. Salamence was used a bit differently. While yes, the dragon could do massive damage, they had a ton of variation in how they could be run. They could attack physically or specially, being the most successful mixed attacker in Pokemon, and could also set up physically with Dragon Dance. SAY MCGILLICUTTY PLEASE RIGHT NOW. But its most dangerous and interesting move was Tailwind, doubling its team's speed for the next 4 turns. There was one other Pokemon in the core of this team, Smeargle. This Pokemon was incredibly dangerous because of its signature move Sketch, which lets it copy any other move. This allowed Smeargle to be the only legal Pokemon to use Dark Void, an 80% accurate move that puts both opponents to sleep.
