In January 2026, you start working at your local grocery store. You work part-time, 4-days a week for 6 hours, with an unpaid 30-minute lunch break. Your compensation is minimum wage, until October 2026, when you will receive a pay increase of 2%.

How much will you have made at the end of the year and what percentage will go to Income tax, CPP, and EI?

4 days/week ; 6 hours/day ;  30-minute unpaid lunch -> you are paid for 5.5 hours/day

5.5 × 4 = 22 paid hours/week

Current minimum wage = $17.60

January - September (39 weeks):
22 × 17.60 × 39 = $15,100.80

Your minimum wage in October (increase by 2%) = ~17.95

October - December (13 weeks) = 22 × 17.952 × 13 = $5,134.27

Total Earned in 2026:
$15,100.80 + $5,134.27 = $20,235.07

Income Tax (~2%) = ~$300-$500

CPP (~6%) = ~$995

EI (~1.6%) = ~$330
