Only in the Dining Commons or Courtyard area. Food and open drinks are strictly prohibited in hallways and classrooms. Only refillable water bottles are allowed in class.
What is the difference between ISS (In-School Suspension) and HSS (Home-School Suspension)?
ISS: Student stays at school in RESET working on classwork away from peers.
HSS: Student is suspended from coming to school for a set number of days. This includes after school events.
What does the acronym P.R.I.D.E. stand for in our school values?
Peace, Respect, Inclusion, Dedication, Excellence.
How many minutes do you have between classes during passing periods, and how far in advance does the warning bell ring?
You get 5 minutes total, with a 1-minute warning bell.
Are you allowed to pull out your cell phone during lunch in the dining commons or during hallway transitions?
No. Phones must remain out of sight in backpacks during class, hallway transitions, restrooms, cafeteria/dining commons, and outdoor time.
Scenario: You left your lunch at home and try to order UberEats or DoorDash to be delivered to the front office. Is this allowed?
No. Food delivery services (DoorDash, UberEats, Favor, etc.) are strictly prohibited. Only a parent/guardian may drop off lunch in the front office.
Two students get into a "play fight" in the hallway pushing each other around, vs. an actual physical fight. What are the consequences for each?
Play Fighting: 1–5 days of lunch detention or 1–2 days ISS.
Physical Aggression/Actual Fighting: 2 days Home Suspension minimum, potential citation from SRO, and safety plan/ALC removal for repeat offenses.
Scenario: You missed your morning bus. Your mom drops you off late, or you get stuck in traffic. Is this considered an excused or unexcused tardy/absence?
Unexcused. Only late arrivals on official AISD school buses are marked excused. Car trouble, traffic, and oversleeping are not excused.
What happens on your 3rd tardy in a specific class?
Teacher contacts your parent/guardian. (1st & 2nd are restorative conversations; 4th leads to an AP success plan).
What type of headphones are allowed on campus, and when can you use them?
Wired headphones only, and only when plugged into a school-issued device for instructional purposes. Wireless AirPods and Bluetooth speakers are strictly prohibited.
Scenario: You ride an electric bike or scooter to school. What rules do you need to follow?
You must bring a lock to secure your bike/scooter. Wear a helmet. Lock up bike/scooter at bike racks. Do not leave them in vestibules, courtyard (free without a lock), or the front office.
Scenario: A student uses profanity or verbal slurs directed at a teacher or staff member. What is the immediate consequence?
Parent conference with the teacher/admin with restorative conversation. ISS or Home Suspension depending on number of offense.

You must keep tardies under 3, maintain at least 90% attendance, and have no major discipline referrals (ISS/OSS).
Scenario: The late bell rings, and you are still walking down the hallway without a hall pass during a random "Tardy Sweep." What happens?
You will be issued a tardy pass and sent to class. Your parents/guardians will be notified and you will be marked tardy for that class period.
Scenario: A teacher asks you to put away your phone, but you refuse. An Administrator or Security Guard is called to collect it. What is the consequence?
The device is confiscated, parent contact, and a discipline consequence for insubordination. (Possible consequence can be issued depending on how many times device has been confiscated.)
A student brings a water gun to school. What happens?
The items will be confiscated immediately by staff/administrators, and the student will face disciplinary action such as detention and ISS.
Scenario: An 8th-grade student gets into a fight or brings vape/prohibited items during the last 9 weeks of school. What happens to their end-of-year privileges (8th Grade Dance, Field Trips, Celebrations)?
GMMS has a zero-tolerance policy—the student will be immediately banned/removed from participating in 8th-grade end-of-year activities.
Scenario: It’s 3:55 PM, school ended at 3:50 PM, and you want to stay for tutoring. You're hungry and your friends are going to go to HEB for a snack. What three rules must you follow?
You must be in your tutorial classroom by 3:55 PM, have a physical pass, stay on campus the whole time (no leaving to go to H-E-B or gas stations), and have a guardian pick you up by 4:15 PM/5:15 PM (since there are no late activity buses).
True or False: If you have more than 10 unexcused absences, you might have to go to truancy court and be put on an attendance contract with the assistant principal.
True. Attendance is important! If you miss school, you must provide a reason with formal documentation to the front office. If you don't provide documentation, the absence will be unexcused.
cenario: A student records a video of an argument in the hallway on their phone and uploads it to social media. What consequences could they face?
Confiscation of the device PLUS 1–3 days of lunch detention (1st offense) or 1–2 days of ISS (2nd offense) for encouraging/inciting violence or recording altercations.
You need to go to the restroom during 2nd period. What two pass requirements must you meet before leaving the room, and when can you NOT leave?
You need a physical GMMS hall pass AND a digital MyHomework pass. You CANNOT leave during the first 15 minutes or last 15 minutes of class.
What happens if a student is caught with e-cigarettes/vapes, alcohol, or illegal substances on school property?
Tobacco/Nicotine Vapes: 10 days In School Suspension, parent conference, and referral.
Alcohol/Drugs: 2 days Home Suspension, parent conference, report filed with SRO, citation/possible arrest, and mandatory discipline hearing for placement in ALC (Alternative Learning Center).
