You just got pulled over for speeding. The police officer spots 3 empty beer cans in your passenger seat, and smells alcohol on you. He asks you to step out of the vehicle. Is he allowed to search you and your vehicle? Explain your answer.

Yes, he is allowed to. The 4th amendment protects you from unreasonable searches and seizures. In this case, he has probable cause (the smell of alcohol and beer cans) that you are breaking the law (drinking and driving) so he can search your vehicle.
