non-fiction
takes place in an invented world that has different laws of nature. Some elements include animals that speak, magic, dragons, unicorns, special powers, fairies, etc
Fantasy
contain elements such as a "happy ending", magic, elements that occur in 3's such as wishes or siblings, riddles and disguises, and character types such as the wicked witch, handsome prince, and damsel in distress.

Out of Chronological Order
a character who recounts/tells the events of a story
Narrator
a story that is made up, but has events that can possibly happen in real life.
realistic fiction
deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, time travel, parallel universes, fictional worlds, space exploration, and extraterrestrial life.
Science Fiction
stories that have a key element of exaggeration, such as Paul Bunyan.
Tall Tale
a scene set in a time earlier than the main story.
Flashback
the leading character or one of the major characters in a story
a story intended to scare, unsettle, or horrify the audience. It usually includes a supernatural, morbid, gruesome, surreal, or exceptionally suspenseful or frightening theme.
Horror
fiction that involves a suspenseful event, often a crime of some type. The reader uses clues from the story and gradually discovers who has committed the crime to solve the problem at the end.
Mystery
brief stories that teach a lesson or moral. The characters are usually animals, but they are given human characteristics.
Fables
A scene set in the future of the main story.
Flashforward
a character who actively opposes or is hostile to someone (usually the main character)
antagonist
story of a national or folk hero, which is based in fact but also includes imagined material.
Legend
chronicles a person's life story but is written by another person.
biography
stories that have been passed down over the years by word of mouth. There are numerous other fictions that are different types of this genre.
Folk Tales
an indication of what's gonna happen later in the story
foreshadowing
1. a mode of storytelling in which a narrator relays events from their own point of view using personal pronouns like "I"
2. relates events using pronouns such as he, she, and they
3. uses the imperative mood and the pronouns you, your, and yours to address readers or listeners directly.
