Ballet de cour is what was danced in the Baroque period. Nobles (rich, important people) danced and the choreography was all about order and complicated shapes.
Tell me about where dancers performed. What were their stages like?
There were not raised stages and audiences mostly stood. Sometimes the crowds were so thick that even the King and Queen couldn't get through.
James is engaged to Effie but he falls in love with a Sylph who appears at his window. He disappears into the forest after her, but an old woman he was rude to during his engagement party follows to trick him. She poisons a scarf and convinces James to give it to Effie. When she puts it on, Effie dies and James passes out from heartbreak. Effie and James' best friend Gurn end up getting married instead.
