The lowest member of the brass family. This instrument is seen in both orchestra and band.

A metal that is commonly used to make many of the instruments used in orchestra and band.

The largest member of the string family. This instrument stands about 6 feet tall and is frequently used in orchestra and Jazz ensemble.
What is a double bass?
A single reed woodwind instrument commonly found in jazz ensemble. The only woodwind instrument to be made out of brass.
What is the saxophone?
A high brass instrument frequently used in orchestra and band. This instrument is recognized for its circular shape. This is the only brass instrument included in a woodwind quintet.
What is the French Horn?
Large metal plates that are stuck together to make a crashing sound. This instrument was originally named for its appearance resembling plates. Commonly found in orchestra, band, and marching band.
What are cymbals?
Instruments that must be hit, shaken, or scraped to create a sound.
What is the percussion family?
The large knobs or pegs on most string instruments used to tighten or loosen the strings to get them to the correct pitch.
What is a tuning peg?
The largest and lowest member of the woodwind family. Originally named for its appearance resembling a large stick.
What is the bassoon?
A low brass instrument used in marching band and occasionally jazz ensemble. This instrument was invented by John Philip Sousa to allow a tuba player to march while playing easier.
What is the Sousaphone?
A medium sized drum with snares running across the bottom that rattle when the drumhead is struck with a stick. This drum is common in orchestra, band, and marching band.
What is a snare drum?
Two pieces of cane tied together so they make a buzzing sound when you blow through them. This is necessary to play instruments such as the oboe and bassoon.
