Who begins the process of distracting Caesar?

Metellus Cimber

100

Explain the importance of Caesar's final words.

"Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar." -A tough moment of realization for Caesar, as he now understands that WAY fewer people liked him than he thought. Even a man he trusted, Brutus, wants him dead, and he is essentially saying that if that's the case, then he willingly will die.

100

What does the phrase "let slip the dogs of war" tell us about Mark Antony and his plan?

Clearly, he plans on a war, but in addition to this it reveals just how infuriated he is by JC's murder. It clearly demonstrates that he had been lying to the conspirator's faces the whole time beforehand and that he has no intention of joining them or being loyal to Brutus.

100

Who stabs Caesar first and what does he say?

Casca, "Speak hand for me!"

100

Why does Antony call the conspirators "the choice and master spirits of this age"?

He's trying to butter them up with compliments so he can prepare his plan to manipulate them and also to survive what he see as a dangerous moment.

300

List the 4 requirements that Brutus gives to Antony if he is to speak at the funeral.

-Must speak after Brutus

-Must speak in the same pulpit

-Must say he speaks b/c conspirators gave him permission to

-Can't blame the conspirators

300

What 2 requests does Antony make as requirements before he gives his loyalty to Brutus?

He wants to bring JC's body to the pulpit and speak at his funeral.

300

Which 2 characters try to warn Caesar at the start of Act 3?

The soothsayer from before and Artemidorus

300
Explain how Antony uses repetition in his speech to sway the plebeians.

He says "honorable men" so many times (8) that it eventually loses its meaning and becomes more of an insult than a compliment. His tone and the context in which he uses that phrase also contribute to its eventual meaninglessness.

300

Translate, generally: "I am constant as the Northern Star, of whose true fixed and resting quality there is no fellow in the firmament."

Like the North Star, I am always here and I also like the star I am unequaled in the galaxy

400

What do the conspirators shout after killing Caesar?

Many things, but notably: "Liberty, freedom, tyranny is dead!" Also, "enfranchisement", which means to give a right or privilege to someone.

400

How is it we learn that the conspirator's plan IS NOT ruined when they're getting ready to enter the Capitol?

Caesar's facial expression doesn't change when he speaks with the senator in question. If he'd been told about the plot, surely he would have reacted.

400

What's the first warning sign things are going wrong after Caesar is killed?

People are running around screaming like it's the end of the world.

400

Who seems to threaten the conspirator's plan upon arrival at the Capitol?

Popilius Lena

400

Whose job is it to distract Mark Antony and get him out of the senate chamber?

Trebonius
