Why was the Kamishibai Man so shocked when a girl "shushed" him?
He is used to kids listening to him, not telling him to be quiet.
What does "rude" mean?
Not nice. Done with poor manners.
What does "vacant" mean?
Empty.
"I've kept the bicycle in good order." What does it mean?
The bicycle works well.
There was a boy with no money who didn't like two things. What were the two things?
Candy and television.
Who came to see the Kamishibai Man in present time and how did grandmother find out about it?
All of the children from his past as well as many more people and the news. Grandmother saw him on the news.
What does it mean to have a "blurry" picture?
The picture is unclear. It cannot be seen well.
What is a "rickety old bridge"?
A bridge that makes noise and is not very strong or sturdy.
Explain. How was the city different when the Kamishibai man returned for the first time?
The park he knew was gone. He saw some old buildings he knew but they were surrounded by new buildings. Everybody was in such a hurry, there were many new vehicles and tall buildings.
Explain why you think everybody was so excited to see the Kamishibai Man again.
It reminded them of their childhood (Nostalgia). They could look at him and see how he was exactly the same and it helped them to remember how much fun they had as children.
Do you think traditional story tellers such as the Kamishibai Man are important these days? Why or why not?
R.A.S. I think they are not important because these days our culture is so different. It's interesting to see how things used to be but, after having seen movies and video games, looking at an old fashioned story teller is just so boring.

As you grow up, you do or use something and because of that, you feel that it has helped to shape the sort of person you have become.
