This staff member is responsible for supervising campers in the cabin and in their unit during daytime activities. They enforce rules and create an environment where all campers feel safe, supported, and included.
What is a Cabin Counselor?
This policy states that no staff member will ever be alone with a camper and no two campers will ever be left without supervision.
What is the Rule of 3?
At this check-in station, counselors will check campers for lice and take their temperature. (Counselors will also be checked before campers arrive.)
What is health screening?
This is the term for anything out of the ordinary, such as but not limited to minor injuries, disclosures, and serious behavior concerns, which should be reported to the CA as quickly as possible but do not require ICS.
What is a situation?
This staff member provides support to cabin counselors, fulfills all cabin counselor duties, liaises with admin, and has detailed knowledge of all campers within their unit.
What is a Unit Leader?
This policy states that there must be at least one counselor present for every three campers.
What is Ratio?
When there are no official camp activities planned, such as during transitions, during which time counselors may utilize back pocket games or songs.
What is unstructured time?
This is a situation which poses a threat to life, property, or esteem, such as major medical events, extreme weather, or missing campers. This should be brought to the CA immediately.
What is an incident?
This staff member provides support and guidance to both staff and campers when dealing with emotional or behavioral issues.
What is the MHP?
All staff members are this, which requires them by law and Kesem policy to report any information which causes you to be concerned about the safety of a camper (abuse, neglect, self-harm, etc.)
What is a Mandated Reporter?
This is the most dangerous time at camp; as such, taking breaks during this time should be avoided.
What is water/pool time?
This item is very important that all campers and counselors have it with them and visible every time they leave the cabin.
What is a nametag?
This staff member provides basic medical care and distributes prescribed medication to campers and staff.
What is a nurse?
This is the time at which all campers should be in their cabins for the night.
What is 10:00pm?
This is the number-one priority of all Camp Kesem programming.
What is SAFETY?
This may be implemented to address serious or unchanged behavior issues. It sets out specific guidelines and consequences for undesirable behaviors.
What is a Behavior Plan?
This staff member ensures policies are being followed, serves as a member of the Admin team, manages Incidents or Situations, and supports all staff members.
What is the CA?
These are the type of shoes that should be worn during all Kesem programing with the exception of shower times and water activities.
What are closed-toe shoes?
During water activites, this is what all staff should be doing if they are not in the water actively supervising campers.
What is scanning?
If microagressions, harmful behavior, or prejudiced remarks occur, this is what all Kesem staff should be. The framework for this includes interrupt, explain, educate, affirm, and follow-up.
