Walk me through the process of initiating a foreign wire transfer in foreign funds

  1. Print the Request for Foreign Currency Funds Transfer (BR-042). This includes the In-Person Funds Transfer Agreement (BR-042A).
  2. Complete each section as required for Remittance Transfers (consumer) or Other Funds Transfers (business).
  3. The FX Symbol is on the last page of the BR-042A.
    Note: Payment Services will provide the M&T Exchange Rate and Value Date for Other Funds Transfers (business foreign wires).
  4. Have the customer print their name and sign the BR-042 under Customer Signature. Do not accept a facsimile (stamp) signature.
  5. The BR-042 includes a Bank Use Only section with Red Flag questions and a Wire Transfer Checklist. Check each box as you complete the steps while the customer is present.
  6. The Branch Initiator must review the completed wire transfer request and the disclaimer agreement located in the Customer Signature section with the customer.
  7. In the Verification section on page four of the BR-042, the branch representative processing the wire request must print their name, their title, and sign under First Branch Representative (Initiator/Bank Authorized #1).
    • For wire transfers greater than $250,000, in the Verification section on page four of the BR-042, another Branch Representative (Authorized # 2) must review, authorize, and attest to the validity of the entire transaction while the customer is present. Print name, title, and sign under the Second Branch Representative (Authorized # 2):
      • Identify the authority of the customer requesting the transfer by verifying in HOGAN that the individual is an authorized signer.
      • Verify ownership of the account from which the funds are to be drawn.
      • Review customer identification while the customer is still present.
      • Compare the signature on the wire request form to a CTA image if the customer is unknown or there are any Red Flags that become apparent during authorization.
