What is soap and water?
Diapers shall be checked every 2 hours or whenever the child indicates discomfort or exhibits behavior that suggests a soiled or wet diaper. The child shall be changed when found to be wet or soiled.
When do you change a child's diaper?
Staff must be awake, alert, and actively supervising all children.
Can I rest while the children are sleeping?
12 months to 36 months: 1 staff member to 5 toddlers
24 months to 36 months: 1 staff member to 7 toddlers
2-1/2 years to 3 years: 1 staff member to 8 children
3 years to 4 years: 1 staff member to 10 children
4 years to 5 years: 1 staff member to 12 children
Mixed age group 2-1/2 years to 6 years: 1 staff member to 10 children
What are the age-group ratios?
Create and maintain a socially and emotionally respectful early learning and care environment.
Facilities may use a variety of teaching methods and curricula to teach social and emotional skills to children.
What does Emotionally Responsive look like?
When filled with water, must be emptied daily and when filled with organic materials (i.e. beans or rice), must be changed weekly
How often do sensory bins need to be cleaned?
For each child who is learning to use a toilet, the child’s individual developmental abilities and needs must be accommodated
The center must provide a rest period with rest equipment of at least 30 minutes for all preschool age children remaining in the center longer than five (5) hours. Quiet activities are permissible during the 30-minute period.
Do we have to have a "Nap Time"?

What are the maximum group sizes?
Programs should use strategies that promote positive behavior and social skills throughout the daily program, and not only as one activity during the day.
Children should have ample opportunity to learn about feelings and to express themselves throughout the day.
For example: "You look sad", "I hear that you are upset", "I see how excited you are!"
What does positive guidance look like?
Toys used by preschool and older children shall be washed, rinsed, and sanitized at least once a week and whenever visibly soiled.
Toys used by infants and toddlers shall be washed, rinsed, and sanitized at least daily.
Toys that are placed in children’s mouths or are otherwise contaminated by body fluids shall be washed, rinsed, and sanitized prior to use by another child.
How often do toys need to be washed and sanitized?
There must be no attempt to toilet train children until they are able to verbalize or otherwise indicate need, help manage their own clothing, and be able to access toileting facilities.
When is it appropriate to start toilet learning (aka potty training)?
Cots must be spaced at least two (2) feet apart on all sides during rest time. Children must have a safe area in which to rest that is easily supervised, out of the path of traffic, and free of hazards.
What is the required space between cots?
Staff members must sit with the children and encourage them to try a variety of food served. During meals, children should be encouraged to engage in conversation and to express their independence.

When do children and/or staff wash their hands?
All supplies needed for diaper changing shall be placed at the diaper changing area before the child is brought to the changing area.
What are the protocols for changing a diaper?
Children must not be forced to sleep. Children who do not sleep after 30 minutes must be allowed to move to another area and be provided with quiet toys and equipment to play with such as puzzles or books. Children who sleep must be allowed to leave their napping area within 10 minutes of waking.
What if I have kids who don't nap?
When caring for children, staff must refrain from personal use of electronics, including but not limited to, cell phones and portable electronic devices.
When can I use my personal phone?

How do children feel safe and respected in their class?
To be used on surfaces that commonly come into contact with food, hands, the mouth, eyes, nose, and exposed skin of children and staff. These surfaces include, but are not limited to, kitchen surfaces, pacifiers, drinking fountains, table tops, keyboards, toys, sleeping mats, head phones, tumbling mats and furniture.
What is sanitizer?
The use of the following shall be prohibited: 1. Incense; 2. Moth crystals or moth balls; 3. Toilet/urinal deodorizer blocks; 4. Chemical air fresheners; and, 5. Scent enhanced products (e.g., candles, essential oils, and spray and plug-in air fresheners, etc.).
What is prohibited in the use to mask odors in the classroom?
In rooms used for napping, the lights must be dim at nap time to promote an atmosphere conducive to sleep.
How dark is too dark for a nap room?
Staff must investigate whenever children cry, scream, or appear to withdraw and must try to verbally or physically soothe the child.
