  • Listen and sit with them
  • Ask if they want to talk
  • Invite them to join you
  • Help distract them with something positive
  • Give them some space if they want it
  • Encourage them to talk to a trusted adult
  • Offer to go with them to get help
  • Remind them they don't have to handle everything alone
